Artists Notes
Back in the mid- to late 1990s, the time club was advertising that this course was a masterpiece; it certainly looked good, so it decided to create a real masterpiece of their course.
I contacted the club president at the time, Wayne Lucas, who was enthusiastic and extremely helpful when I told him what I wanted to do. Wayne sent me numerous photos and detailed information on the course and offered me a complimentary game for two complete with a golf cart so I could experience the course for myself.
I travelled to Cobram with my brother-in-law Mick, and we met Wayne, who gave us a guided tour of the course, including some of the holes that might be of interest. Afterwards we enjoyed an afternoon playing golf and taking in the magnificent scenery. I can’t remember if I won or lost the game, but I was left with a lasting impression of a breathtaking golf course.
Wayne’s infectious love for his course and his unfaltering hospitality helped me enormously, and I just could not wait to start this painting.
The painting was a major undertaking, completed in around six months, but in the end, it was well worth the effort. I had created a masterpiece of Wayne’s Cobram-Barooga Golf Course.
